Prom Season is Here by Marvens Brutus
Are you going to prom? Who are you going with? Is prom really worth it? How do you think you will look back at this moment? These are the questions that high school seniors ask themselves. Every single year, many teens spend hundreds of dollars on prom. This includes the tickets, rides, suits and dresses, make-up, and hairstyles. For some, their bill reaches to the thousands. Is prom really worth spending so much money?
Many would argue that it is well worth the money if you don't overspend. “It’s a once in a lifetime experience” is the phrase that is often used whenever someone is asked why they're going to prom. Prom is considered the event that everyone MUST go to. Hype is built around it from the moment you enter high school. A lot of former students still remember their prom, even former students who are adults with careers remember their prom and still consider it "one of the best nights of their lives."
Keep in mind that you don't need to be spending a lot of money to have a good time at prom. Although a lot of students really enjoyed their prom, some say one of their regrets is spending all of their money for one night. A former student at Spring Valley High School said she had a really good time at prom, but her expenses totaled over $2,000 for that one night!
That's one of the main reasons why some people don't go to prom -- the expenses. Prom isn't cheap, everyone knows that. Sometimes people don't go simply because they can't afford it. But the thing about prom is that some teens go overboard. They spend a lot money on things that are unnecessary. Some teens wear the best of the best tuxedos or dresses just to look good and show off.
Whether you decide to go to prom or not is completely up to you, but I'm here to help you decide. Is prom really worth it? It is if you don't spend all of your savings for that one night. Prom is about having fun at the "night you'll remember forever," so you don't need a lot of money to have a good time. There are a lot of students who spent no more than $300 on prom and they say they had a great time and it was everything they expected it to be. But if you decide not to go, it's not the end of the world. There are other things you can do that night that can be cheaper and you can have an equal amount of fun. You can go out of town with some friends or go to some famous or well known places and make it your own night to remember. Not everyone is a prom person and that is okay. So whatever you do the night of prom, make sure you have fun, be safe, and make it a night to remember.
